Micro-relief is an often-overlooked aspect of the landscape. The subtle traces in the soil, shaped by human activity, form structures that partially dictate the value placed on the landscape. This relief engages the sense of touch and fosters a connection with the terrain.
The micro-relief in the heathland of Balloo originated in the Middle Ages, but traces of paths likely emerged much earlier. Historical research utilizing diverse sources, such as a meticulously edited elevation map, has established the foundation for the feltscape of the cart tracks.
